DESCRIPTION

The house is 1650 square feet and sits on roughly one acre of wooded serenity. The house is 450 feet from the road and is located on the Albemarle Sound. The house consists of one open ground level and two upper levels of living area. The ground level is latticed with a concrete floor. An outside (hot and cold) shower is on this level with an enclosed dressing area, a fish cleaning table with running water is beside the shower. Two stairways rise to the first lower living level. This floor is enclosed on all four sides by a deck. The lower level consists of four bedrooms and two full baths with a screened porch off the Master bedroom. The two water side bedrooms have sliding glass doors that open to a deck and a beautiful view of the sound. One bathroom has a shower/tub. The second bath has a shower/Jacuzzi tub. This tub is a two person design with 4 jets. The other two bedrooms have sliding glass doors opening to the front (wooded side). There is one queen size bed (master bedroom); one double bed (the second water-side bedroom). The other (street side bedrooms) each have 2 twin beds. This house sleeps eight comfortably. NO MORE THAN EIGHT PEOPLE IN THE SOUND CRAB. Blankets and pillows are provided for all beds. PLEASE FURNISH YOUR OWN SHEETS, PILLOW CASES, BATH MATS, BATH TOWELS AND DISH TOWELS. However, linen and towels are available for $60 for the week.

A juniper lined stairway leads to the top floor. This floor includes one great room, dining room, kitchen, ½ baths, and a screened porch. This level has cathedral ceilings and oversized glass doors. These glass doors combined with half circle and stained glass windows afford breathtaking water and woods view. The kitchen is fully equipped with a built-in microwave, electric stove, dishwasher, and refrigerator with an automatic ice maker. A blender, coffee maker, crockpot, toaster, pots and pans, dishes, crab steamer, etc. are also available. A counter seats five and can be used for dinner or entertaining. A full size washer and dryer are located in a storage area on this floor.

A Weber charcoal barbecue grill is available on the deck. The deck covers two sides of the upper level while the porch covers the third side. Rising from this level of deck is a roof top deck. This deck is 35 feet off the ground. It is carpeted and has built in seating and offers another fabulous view of the sound and sunsets. This house contains a central heat pump/air conditioning unit. A unit of this type is most efficient when left at 76 degrees. The unit can be shut off completely and just the ceiling fans in the great room can be turned on. A stereo with AM/FM radio and with CD player is located in the great room. Please bring whatever CDs you enjoy. Cable TV with a VCR and DVD player is provided in the living room. All bedrooms contain Cable TV's. The house is wired for the internet and all passwords are posted in a frame in the kitchen area.

A pier extends 130 feet onto the sound and is 8 feet wide. At the end of the pier is a dock with a gazebo. The gazebo is carpeted and contains a table and 4 chairs. Fishing is permitted. The water level is shallow (less than 2 feet), but PLEASE KEEP A WATCH ON YOUNG CHILDREN.

LOCATION / DIRECTIONS

1412 FIRST STREET
KILL DEVIL HILLS, NORTH CAROLINA

Take Interstate 95 from Washington, DC to Interstate 295 (Beltway around Richmond, VA) to Interstate 64 (east). Exit I-64 onto I-664(across from the Hampton Coliseum). The I-664 exit is to the right and is well marked. Take I-664 through the tunnel. I-664 will end at I-64. Exit right back onto I-64 (now you are heading north). Then exit I-64 at Route 168 bypass (Exit 291-B (Great Bridge & Nags Head)). Follow Route 168 into North Carolina where it becomes Route 158. Route 158 crosses the Currituck Sound Bridge to the Outer Banks.

Take Route 158 Bypass past the Milepost #7 to just before the Wright Memorial. Turn right on Landing Drive. (If you pass the Wright Memorial or Milepost #8, you’ve gone too far). Continue down Landing Drive until it ends at First Street. Take a left on First Street. The house is ¼ mile from the turn onto First Street. The house is on the right side (water side). There is a chain link fence on the front of the property. There is a sign on a post at the beginning of the drive way that says “The Sound Crab” (the house is teal). If you pass the house, the street will dead end in a cul-de-sac.

HOUSE RULES / GENERAL INFORMATION


Check In Time: Saturday at 2:00 PM
Check Out Time: Saturday at 11:00 AM

(as stated in contract there is a $25 per hour (or partial hour) charge past 11 AM)

 

WINDOWS
When leaving the “Sound Crab” even for a short time please close all windows and doors. Sudden rain storms come with little or no warning. Also, please leave windows and doors closed as much as possible during pollen season.

CLEANING
There is a cleaning service for $85. The cleaning service is no longer “optional”.

REFRIGERATOR
Please leave refrigerator and freezer settings at mid-range. When you first arrive at the “Sound Crab” and put warm foods in the refrigerator it takes several hours for the refrigerator to cool the foods. Please wait before you call for maintenance.

PETS
Absolutely NO PETS are allowed under any circumstances. Violation of this rule will result in forfeiture of deposit and could be grounds for eviction.

GRILLING
The grill is chained to an outdoor deck on the top level (fire ordinance). Please be careful when grilling. Any turkey roasters or other cooking devices used on the upstairs deck are not permitted and all damages will come out of the deposit.

FIRE EXTINGUISHER
There is a fire extinguisher located on both living levels and in the washer/dryer room. One is in the hallway on the bedroom level and the other is in the kitchen. Please make sure every guest is aware where they are located.

TELEPHONE
There is no longer a telephone (land–line) in the house.

TRASH PICKUP
Trash pick-up is Tuesday and Friday. Please make sure the dumpsters are wheeled to the roadway for pick-up and returned under the house afterwards. Please try to make the Friday pick-up so the next renters have some room in the dumpster. The town ordinance is strict and places a fine on trash placed on the ground.

MAINTENANCE
If you should have any immediate maintenance problems with the cottage please call and report them to Ron Perry. His number is (252) 202-3635. Or contact me at 703-855-7725. Any minor problems please leave him a note when you leave or inform me on your return.

Maximum occupancy: There is a maximum occupancy limit at the “Sound Crab” of 9 people.

Minimum Age Requirement: Someone in the renting party must be 26 years of age or older (verifiable at check-in).
